Language Syntax

What's it Look Like?
- General syntax looks like C, including:
- Assignment, increment/decrement and bit shift operators
-
if,
for and do/while constructs.
- Variables names are:
- Sometimes similar to Bourne shell variables (eg,
$$ is
the process id)
- Case sensitive
- Restricted to
[a-zA-Z0-9_], beginning w/ alpha
character
- Allowed to be pretty long
- Function names follow same rules of variables
- Uses some functionality found in
awk
- Regex syntax similar to
sed
Put it all together and you get a mess (or job security, depending on
how you look at it)!
